Definitely no shortage of bikes in Amsterdam. Not sure how people find theirs - especially if they've had a beer or two or visited a coffeeshop.
Walking is a bit of a sport - you have to be on a constant lookout for bikes, trams, cars and other people. All of these can come at you from any direction - any step from the sidewalk is always preceded by looking in *all* directions. It is truly amazing that there aren't more accidents - perhaps its survival of the fittest and the unfit have already been eliminated?
